Mecer Xpress Executive A801 Tablet

The smaller brother to Mecer’s A105, this is the Mecer Xpress Executive A801. The A801 is an 8-inch tablet featuring Windows 8.1 and some Intel innards. It’s also light as a feather, which is a pleasant bonus when it comes to tablets. The Mecer Xpress Executive A801 features that 8-inch screen, which is an IPS TFT panel with a resolution of 1280 x 800. Five-finger multitouch is supported and it’s as bright as you could want for such a small screen.

Inside, there’s an Intel Z3735G Bay Trail chip, which is a 1.83GHz quad-core bit of silicon. There’s 1Gb of DDR3 RAM backing it up and storage is taken care of by 16GB of NAND eMMC memory. So pretty standard as tablet specs go. But it’s the bits you can’t see that are really impressive. The Mecer Xpress Executive A801 supports WiFi and Bluetooth 4.0, as well as having its own SIM card slot powered by some Huawei hardware. Like the A105, there A801 has two 2MP cameras, one in the front and one in the rear, as well as USB 2.0 support, a microUSB slot and a microSD card reader. There’s a 4000mAh battery running the show and Mecer have built in a couple of speakers.

There’s also a one-year subscription to Office 365 Personal bundled with this unit and that sub will support two machines. Awesome. So if you’re looking for a PC away from your PC but would like to put it in your pocket as well, this is what you should be after. The Mecer Xpress Executive A801 compresses a full-sized machine into something that’ll get lost in the average backpack. And the compact nature is the whole point, really.
