There comes a time when you need to ask yourself: just how versatile is my notebook, really? If you’re using anything other than Acer’s Aspire R7 Convertible Touch, the answer is probably: not really. We’ve seen notebooks that are able to double as presentation devices and tablets but there are very few that are able to change their configuration as readily as the R7 Convertible. The touch aspect? That just adds that something extra you need to see just how handy this machine is.
The Acer Aspire R7 Convertible Touch has a very unique hinge, one that allows this notebook to be used in a wide variety of situations. It can be set up like a conventional laptop, with the display elevated so that users can have the keyboard and trackpad as close as possible or with the display set at a height above the main body of the notebook. This could work for presentations or just using the Aspire R7 as a media playback device in a room full of people.
But the hinge, which makes the 15.6-inch IPS touch panel into the computing equivalent of a gymnast, isn’t all there is to the R7. It also comes packing some updated hardware, like the Intel Core i5 4200 processor, 8GB of system RAM (with a max of 12GB available) and also some third-party graphics.
Graphics courtesy of Nvidia, with the 2GB GeForce GT 750M GPU being the resident visuals provider. Long story short, the Aspire R7 Convertible Touch is a lot more powerful than you’d think, with the ability to perform on the gaming front as well as its various business-related tasks.
What else can you expect from this touchscreen flex-notebook? Bluetooth 4.0 support, USB 3.0, a webcam, WiFi and HDMI support? It’s all there.
And Acer doesn’t skimp with the extras either. The Aspire R7 Convertible Touch comes standard with a wireless mouse, stylus and screen cloth. Oh, and it’s running Windows 8.1 64-bit, because you have to have that on your machine these days. It’s practically a rule.
