Acer Travelmate P645M Ultrabook (NX.V8VEA.018)

It’s about time that Acer’s ultrabook lineup got itself an upgrade. The numbering scheme might have incremented upwards but the internal hardware has taken quite a jump since the last time we checked in on these machines.

Meet the Acer TravelMate P645M, an ultrabook that justifies the name. How so? Well, for one, it leaves out the optical drive so that they can cram even more hardware in and that’s pretty much the standard definition of ultrabook these days.

But nifty hardware is always a must as well and Acer has users covered there. There’s a Core i7 4510U in place powering the 14-inch LED-backlit display. There’s a solid 8GB of low-voltage DDR3 system memory doing backup vocals in this little band as well.

There’s 500GB of storage to play with and Intel’s HD Graphics 4400 solution is parked in the background as well, so the Acer TravelMate P645M will make for an impressive media machine as well as a lightweight office desktop replacement. Unfortunately, there is no third-party graphics option available in this model.

What is available is 3G, via a SIM card slot built into the P645M, as well as a dual-boot setup consisting of both Windows 8 Pro and Windows 7 Professional 64-bit. Nice if you’re swapping between two business locations with different requirements.

And then there’s the typical notebook functions. Connectivity is wireless all the way, with 802.11 a/b/g/n and Bluetooth hooking you up, and there’s biometric login, USB 3.0 support, a webcam and card reader as well as an option to connect to a network via ethernet to look forward to.

So yeah, we’d say that the Acer TravelMate P645M has undergone a bit of a facelift.
